NEWS BITES

The OG crypto - Bitcoin - just got a fresh new look. Since arriving on the scene in 2009, Bitcoin has slowly become the most widely adopted crypto on the planet. Bitcoin maximalists ("maxis") love it for a variety of reasons, chief among them that it represents new possibilities for a new global monetary system.

But change is afoot. Until now, Bitcoin has been known solely as a peer-to-peer monetary system (aka just dollars and cents). Enter Ordinals, a new protocol that lets people inscribe data (i.e. images, videos) onto the Bitcoin blockchain. This opens up a world of possibility.

With Ordinals, the Bitcoin blockchain can be used as a foundation for decentralized apps (dApps) and NFTs, in addition to its classical monetary use case.

Some speculate that this could explode into a whole new Bitcoin ecosystem (similar to how Ethereum has grown), but others remain skeptical, believing Ordinals will slow down the chain and dilute its original purpose of providing a global store of value.

The price of Bitcoin has dampened since Ordinals, but we caution correlation vs causation.
