While the funding world was quiet last week, we rummaged through 2022 to see what really went down. We're all guilty of chasing FTX news and SBF's travel plans, but they've overshadowed important trends to watch that will shape '23.
Major Raises
Your personal crypto portfolio might look like an empty Vegas craps table but big VCs are still doubling down. a16z just raised $4.5B for another crypto-centric fund, while Pantera and Haun Ventures raised $1.3B and $1.5B respectively for blockchain funds.
Consequently, major crypto projects are seeing raises in the hundreds of millions: ConsenSys ($450M), Secret Network ($400M), NEAR ($350M), Chainalysis ($170M), and Ramp ($70M) among the beneficiaries. Big crypto companies with big wallets mean more jobs with staying power.
Crypto Media Booms
Looking for a career in media? You might not have to side hustle for .07 cents a word. After an incredibly...chaotic year, mass market media is waking up to the fact that crypto is here to stay. Our guess is we'll see more traditional media opportunities on the crypto beat begin to open up.
Big Brand Adoption
While crypto hacks and market crashes dominated the spotlight, big web2 brands quietly began to roll out NFT-powered community programs on Polygon. See: Tiffany, Adidas, Starbucks, Bud Light, Instagram and Reddit. NBD, right? For job seekers, this signals opportunity where the traditional sector meets the 'new internet'. Go forth and conquer.
